DescriptionThis is a Zeiss compound microscope with stand A. It has a brass body that is permanently attached to a nickel-plated three-objective revolving nosepiece. It has a blackened U-shaped base and a curved arm. The coarse objective is by rack and pinion located on the top of the arm. The fine focus mechanism utilizes gears and a sector that acts as a lever against the pressure of a coil spring. The fine focus is also located on the top of the arm.
There is a fixed, square brass stage accompanied by an attachment that can make the stage mechanical with x-y motion. An Abbe condenser with an iris diaphragm is located beneath the stage. The condenser is held in a mount sleeve and is adjustable by a screw. Below the condenser is a plane-concave mirror on a swing-out mount.
This microscope is accompanied by a wooden case with a key. The case holds four objectives in canisters, one ocular, and two blue glass filters.
The case is marked inside, "Oliver Cope." There is also a sticker on the foot of the microscope, which reads: "Private property of Oliver Cope, M.D."
