Description:
This simple planetarium has the sun in the center as a brass ball. The sun is geared to to the earth and moon like a little tellurian that is operated by pushing a handle around the sun. The planets Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune are represented by paper disks carried on curved brass arms. These are moved by hand and have no gearing. The disk for Saturn has fallen off and is stored in a separate envelope. Disks for Venus and Mars are missing.
The planetarium is mounted inside an armillary sphere made of a horizon circle and two brass rings representing the colures for the equinoxes and solstices. The horizon circle is divided 0°-30° twelve times (without zodiacal or calendrical names) and is marked in German with the names of the cardinal directions.
The armillary sphere is supported by a cast iron frame and turned brass pedestal. The latter sits on a turned wooden pedestal, which is painted black.
