Description:
All brass microscope with a tripod foot that folds up parallel to the upright arm. A tail piece slides up until the substage mirror is nearly in contact with the stage. The arm has a sleeve into which the body tube goes. The body tube is adjusted by rack and pinion for fine focus. Coarse focus is by means of an ocular draw tube with a fixed eyepiece.

The stage is rectangular with brass spring clips. The substage mirror is plano-concave. The concave side is cracked.

The tripod legs, arm, and sleeve are blackened brass. The rest is bright brass.

The instrument has a standing wooden case with parts cushioned by green wool cloth. A corroded iron handle is on top. Ten prepared glass slides are with the instrument. Four are commercially made. There is one objective with a nickel-tip (marked "1/2 in") and one ocular.

The interior of the case door is marked in pencil and chalk.
