Description:
This is a Bausch & Lomb no. 560 large student's compound microscope. It has a blackened three-point cast iron base carrying an inclining hinge on two brass pillars. The pillars attach to the brass arm which is attached to the body tube. The coarse adjustment is by rack and pinion. The fine adjustment is by a screw on top of the arm.

In place of a mechanical stage, this microscope is equipped with a moveable slide holder consisting of a german silver plate moving on a glass plate. A revolving diaphragm and a concave mirror on a swinging bar are located below the stage.

Both the diaphragm and the eyepiece housing on this instrument are made of vulcanite. They are discolored due to light exposure.

The diaphragm wheel is broken.
