Description:
Galvanometer with cylindrical glass case and glass suspension tube. Coil encased in ivory and mounted to the inside cover of glass case. One needle within coil, the other needle and pointer suspended below coil. Scale graduated from 0-90-0-90-0 on the glass bottom of the case. Four binding posts attached to exterior of case. Case is attached to brass stand with inset of frosted glass for table mounting and three leveling screws.

FunctionThis galvanometer was used as a student's meter in the classroom. A galvanometer is a device used to measure the strength of an electric current. It uses a compass needle to compare a magnetic field generated by the unknown current to earth's magnetic field.
Curatorial RemarksIncorrect tag came with galvanometer.
