DescriptionThis is a Zeiss VEB compound phase microscope with a stand L. The V-shaped base and the curved arm are metal and blackened. The quadruple revolving nosepiece is made out of nickel and is attached to an inclined moncular tube, which allows for comfortable viewing. The nosepiece holds two objectives, one by Zeiss and the other by Bausch & Lomb. The coarse focus is by rack and pinion located at the base of the arm. The fine focus is a drum located on the post near the foot. Its intervals correspond to 0.002 mm.
There is a square mechanical stage without verniers. Located below the stage is a phase condenser. The condenser has an iris diaphragm attached to a calibrated ring. The condensor is also equipped with a disc-shaped turret that places different spot-ring diaphragms between the iris and the condensing lens. The condenser also has a swing out ring for filters. Below the condenser is a bracket for holding a mirror or other light source.
At the top of the post that holds the arm, there is the Zeiss VEB signature accomapanied by a special mark consisting of Q with the number "1" inside. This mark was awarded since 1950 by the East German government to precision instruments of superior quality
At the base of the foot there is a sticker that reads: "ATLANTEX & ZIELER CORP. / DEDHAM, MASS / 326-7410."
