Description:
An external Ethernet transceiver made by Allied Telesis. The Ethernet device is metal-cased with a male brass connection jack in metal casing on one side. There are six colored oval bars on the front face of the transceiver, increasing in length from the top to the bottom. Each bar has a light at the left most end. The top bar is yellow and labeled "LINK", second from the top bar is orange and labeled "SOE TEST", the second from the bottom bar is maroon and labeled "POLARITY", and the bottom bar is blue and labeled "POWER".

FunctionThe Ethernet transceiver is used to connect the personal computer to a local area network (LAN). The device is connected to the main system unit of the computer. It handles the transmitting and receiving of the necessary information to create a network connection. This particular transceiver was used by the Collection of Historical Scientific Instruments in conjunction with an Apple personal desktop computer (1999-1-0014a).
