Description:
This "photographic printing frame" model was invented in 1890 by H.W. Lewis of Huntington, New York. H.W. Lewis' patent application was filed on January 27, 1890 and the patent was granted to him on August 12, 1890. A sequence of numbers is visible on the serrated circular brass piece situated between the two hinges of the pressure-board.
The printing frame consists of two interlocking pieces--the frame itself and the pressure-board designed to fit snugly into the frame--made of wood with brass hardware. The wood doors of the pressure-board are fitted together by brass hinges. On the side opposite the brass components the pressure-board is covered in fabric. The two long brass pieces on each door of the spring-board are spring-clamps which lock into the four brass clips of the frame.
