Description:
Of a circular shape, this anemoscope was used in conjunction with its twin anemometer (#2007-1-0018). The dial measures the direction of wind in degrees, the smallest division being 5 degrees. The eight major geographical coordinates are also shown. This is not a precision instrument, so may have been used with a recorder (like, for instance, #1998-1-1662). There are holes on the outside of the casing to fix the anemoscope vertically.
Signedon dial: WIND DIRECTION / THE / --FRIEZ -- / ANEMOSCOPE / Julien P. Friez & Sons. Inc. / Belfort Observatory / Baltimore, MD / U.S.A.
