Description:
The top of the instrument is made of a brass wheel made of two curved arms (forming an "S") and two straight ones. It is set in equilibrium on a pointed vertical rod. The latter is connected to two arms, curving upwards and an another one, horizontal, ended with a ring. This whole section is supported by a glass-insulated pillar set in a turned wooden base, painted black and laquered.

FunctionAn electrostatic machine would be connected on the horizontal arm ending with a ring. Electric charges would be transferred to the brass points on each side of the fly wheel, and from the wheel to the tip of its four arms. Because the charges would be identical everywhere, electrical repulsion would ensue, putting in motion the fly wheel.
