Description:
This apparatus (which could also be called a reaction vessel) consists of a cylindrical glass jar. Its bottom is not flat but rather molded in the shape of an inverted paraboloid. A second part is secured in place (somewhat loosely) owing to a screw and thread plumbing pipe connector. On that latter part, two rubber tubes are fixed: one to let liquids in and one to let gas out.

Curatorial RemarksProf. Lawrence Bogorad arrived at Harvard in 1967. He is well-known for his research on the molecular biology of the photosynthetic apparatus. The instrument here is perhaps related to this research.
