Description:
The box is a black wedge-shaped box containing six removable trays of filters (143 filters in all). The filters are of various colors and opacity. The cover is hinged at the back and held opened by a folding aluminum bracket. Two latches, one on each side of the box, secure the cover in place.

FunctionWas used by Edwin Land in his research on color theory. They were fixed to slide projectors, like the ones described in the inv. numbers 2004-1-0159a, 2004-1-0161a, and 2004-1-0211. It is black because it was used in the black room where Land was doing his experiments on color theory.
Curatorial RemarksThe filters are most likely Wratten filters, made by Kodak.
