Description:
This camera is a prototype of the Polaroid SX-70 Land Camera Model 2, a folding Single Reflex Lens (SLR) camera with sonar auto-focus. The SX-70 camera was first introduced to the market around 1972 and Polaroid continued designing and manufacturing SX-70 models through the early 1980s. The black plastic body of the camera folds into a flask-like compact form. To open the camera one would lift the small end of the viewfinder cap (the small rectangular piece on top of the flask-like body of the folded camera) until the body is fully expanded.
When opened, to the left of the camera lens is a red shutter button (also used to control the auto-focus) and to the right of the lens is the electric eye. Above the electric eye is a black and white control for adjusting lightness and darkness. On the top edge of the auto-focus sensor is a socket where a flash bar can be attached. Above the red shutter button is a focus wheel. The bellows of this camera appears to be made of rubber.
