Friez Instrument Division, Bendix Aviation Corporation
1941 - 1966
The Julien P. Friez company of Baltimore was established in 1876 by Julien P. Friez as a maker of weather instruments. The workshop changed its name to Julien P. Friez & Sons in 1913. The firm operated the Belfort Meteorological Observatory in Baltimore.
In 1929, the firm was acquired by the Consolidated Instrument Company, and in 1930 by the Bendix Aviation Corporation. Julien P. Friez & Sons continued to use its own name and have autonomy, but around 1941, the firm began to brand itself as the Friez Instrument Division, Bendix Aviation Corporation.
The division continued in operation until about 1966.
Note that another of Julien P. Friez's sons independently founded an instrument company in the Belfort Observatory in the late 1940s, which took the name of Belfort Instrument Company in 1949.
