View All Objects
General Electric grew out of the merger of the Thomson-Houston Company and Edison General Electric Company in 1892. Headquarters were in Schenectady, New York.

The Electronics Department was based in Bridgeport, Connecticut along with the merchandise and appliance departments.

GE bought the Cooper-Hewitt Electric Co. in 1919, in Hoboken, N.J., and changed its name to the General Electric Vapor Lamp Co. The latter was changed again in 1939 to General Electric. Co. It manufactured mercury vapor lamps.
