Julius Grunow
fl. 1849 - 1890
Julius and William Grunow, two brothers, emigrated to New York about 1849 and began making microscopes. They relocated to New Haven around 1854, and then moved back to New York City in 1864. During this period their instruments were signed, "J. & W. Grunow."
In the late 1860s, the brothers began to work separately. Julius specialized in microscopes while William made scientific instruments. Instruments were then signed as "J. Grunow, New York" or "Wm. Grunow, New York."
