A. T. Thompson & Company
According to the Illustrated Boston, the Metropolis of New England, 1889 (p. 137):
"A. T. THOMPSON & CO., Manufacturers and Dealers in Stereopticons, Lenses, Photographic Slides, Etc., No. 13 Tremont Row.--There is probably not one among the many novel and ingenious devices combining the features of utility, instruction and amusement that have taken a firmer hold on popular favor than the stereopticon. And this is true alike as to its application as an effective advertising medium, in street display, as an adjunct to the lecture platform, or stage effects. Keeping pace with the march of progress in science and art, very marked improvement has been effected in these interesting and useful devices of late, a degree of excellence closely akin to perfection itself having been attained in the articles mentioned by some makers, and among those can be named A. T. Thompson & Co. manufactuerers of and dealers in stereopticons, lenses, photographic slides, etc., No. 13 Tremont Row, this city, whose productions are articles of exceptional merit, and, as a consequence, are in wide and growing demand in the trade throughout the entire country. The electric-light stereopticon (which is the leading specialty,) patented and made only by this firm, Is by common consent the most effective, perfect and altogether superior device ever invented as is amply attested by the extenslve sale it is meeting with all over the United States. Mr. Thompson is a man of practical skill and ingenuity, of long and varied experience in this line, and is thoroughly conversant with the business in all Its branches. He established this flourishing business in 1871, and from the first has been signally successful in his enterprise. The premises occupied at No. 13 Tremont Row include a neat, compact office and salesroom on third floor, with commodious, well equipped factory on fourth floor, whlle some twenty expert hands are employed. The firm manufactures and deals in stereopticons of every description, lenses. photographic slides and kindred articles, and also makes slides to order in the most prompt and excellent manner, while lectures are illustrated likewise in the first-class style, at reasonable rates."
The firm was established by Albert T. Thompson of Boston.
