View All Objects
Incorporated as the National Toy Company in 1914, the National Company (its name changed informally in 1916 and formally in 1932) manufactured specialized parts for power plants and mechanical toys. In the 1920s the company began making radio equipment. During the mid-1950s, a second company established by National's management, the National Radio Company, Inc., took over all consumer products work; the National Company handled government contracts. The National Radio Company, Inc. went bankrupt in the early 1970s.
