Edward C. Pickering

1846 - 1919

Edward C. Pickering was a famous astronomer who directed the Harvard College Observatory for fourty-two years. He is well known for having produced the Henry Draper Catalogue, which records hundreds of thousands of stars spectra. He did it with the help of his "harem," women he hired over the years, some of which becoming famous astronomers, including Williamina P. Fleming, Annie J. Cannon, Antonia Maury, and Henrietta S. Leavitt.
