Frank Gair Macomber

Frank Gair Macomber was in the marine and fire insurance business in Boston. In 1877, a few years after the great Boston fire of 1872, Macomber formed a partnership with George M. Endicott. In 1886, Endicott & Macomber was the first to be an American agent for the London-based Employers' Liability Assurance Corporation (est. 1880), and so was the first company in the United States to offer employers' liability insurance.

With the retirement of Endicott the firm became Frank Gair Macomber, Insurance.

Macomber was a collector and supporter of the arts. His collection of Near Eastern antiquities was on display at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston for twenty years. It sold at auction in 1924.

The Frank Gair Macomber Claims Agency is still in business a narine survey, adjusting and consulting business. Its home office is in Beverly, Massachusetts, with ports of presence including Boston, Chicago, Houston, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, New York and New Jersey. The Frank Gair Macomber Company, an insurance business, has its office in Rockville Centre, New York.
