Cuthbertson & Champneys
James Champneys (fl. 1760-1771) took John Cuthbertson (1745-ca. 1822) as his apprentice in 1761 and became his father-in-law in 1768. They were partners from about 1764 until 1766, when Champneys went bankrupt after being sued by Dollond for patent infringement related to the achromatic lens. They both moved from England to Holland in 1768 and set up shop in Amsterdam. Cuthbertson stayed in Holland until about 1798.
