Justus von Liebig
Born in Darmstadt in 1803, Justus von Liebig was a German chemist known for his creation of the modern laboratory teaching method. He also made significant contributions to agricultural and biological chemistry.
Liebig attended the University of Bonn and the University of Erlangen, receiving his doctorate from the latter. After school, he worked in Paris before returning to Darmstadt. He became a professor at the University of Giessen, establishing the school of chemistry there. In 1852 he moved to the University of Munich, where he worked until his death in 1873.
Liebig founded and edited the journal Annalen der Chemie (beginning 1832) and was elected a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1837.
